Dental Implants In Mississauga

At Dr. Bobby Brown and Associates, our Mississauga dentists use dental implants to replace patient’s missing teeth and to restore their jaw function with a long lasting, state of the art, natural looking tooth root.

What Are Dental Implants

Dental implants to this day, are a miracle of modern technology, even though they have roots going back thousands of years. They are a type of dental restoration that mimics the function and integration of a natural tooth which ultimately integrates into your jaw bone. No other treatment can come close to the long lasting and natural restorative function of a real tooth.

It’s very elegant in concept: an implant is just a small exotic metal screw that replaces the tooth completely. During surgery, the dentist will place the implant right into the hole under your gums into the jaw bone.

Because of the modern technology both of composition and geometry of the implant screw, it acts like a natural tooth root. All it needs when the initial process is done is a dental crown! Of course, the crown is also natural and designed to look like and act like your other teeth.

We don’t want you to worry about getting dental implants. It’s a major step in restoring you to your previous self – eating the foods you used to and preventing future complications due to missing teeth.

Below we will fully explain your dental implant treatment in Mississauga so that you can decide for yourself how beneficial and impactful this is for you.

The Consequences of Missing Teeth and Bone Loss

Where you are experiencing tooth loss might affect you differently.

Most people with missing teeth in their smile want to get treated right away because they feel self-conscious. Over time, they lose confidence in their smile, slowly withdraw from pictures, social gatherings and can lead to feeling isolated and alone.

If the missing teeth are beyond the smile and into more the back of your mouth, then while it might not show up in pictures, it directly affects your chewing and health. Most of our chewing is done at the back and to some extent the sides of our mouths. People that have holes here, have difficultly chewing things like steak, gum, or other non soft foods. Long term issues arise here because people tend to not notice that area much especially if they don’t see their dentist regularly.

Whether in the front or in the back, what happens is that the teeth surrounding the gap don’t have support. No support means pushing and pulling over time loosens the tooth. What makes it worse is that your jaw bone is a “use it or lose it” meaning that if there is no tooth in an area, that jaw bone tends to recede, allowing surrounding teeth to loosen further and eventually fall out. This is what gives rise to that sunken appearance in the mouth when there is prolonged time with no teeth in the jaw. The longer this is left alone, the less jaw bone to work with in case implants are desired at some point.

Also, having the space there means more ways for bacteria to enter and attack. With receding gums along the sides, it exposes more of the surrounding teeth to areas where cavities might develop leading to rot and decay.

It’s best to look at your options right away before these problems magnify. As we say, “one implant costs less than two implants”.

Candidates for Tooth Implants

To be a candidate for a dental implant, you need to satisfy two main conditions. One of those conditions is that you have a strong enough bone density in your jaw for the implant. This is determined by your dentist through x-rays and an exam.

If you don’t have enough bone density, then you can have a bone graft to support the jaw prior to the placement of the tooth.  Dr. Bobby Brown and Associates incorporates a procedure called platelet rich fibrin (PRF) which accelerates healing for bone grafts and helps with gum recession.

The other condition is that you have a good immune system. This is again determined by your dental professional.

The Dental Implant Procedure

If you speak with other patients that have had the implant placement process, they will tell you that it’s much easier than you think.

There are 4 general stages on the day of treatment:

Health and Missing Tooth Assessment

The first stage involves getting you in for your dental implant consultation in our Mississauga dental office. There, we will determine what you want to accomplish, how your smile will look and if implants are a right fit. We will need to take x-rays and assess your jaw and surrounding areas to plant the treatment.  From there we will go over your options and schedule a time to complete the treatment.

Inserting the Implants

Once you are in for your treatment, we will make you feel comfortable and relaxed. You won’t have to worry about any pain because we use a local anesthetic. The dentist will then insert the implant and secure it in your jaw. Then you go home and let the implant heal!

Complete the Look

It may take a couple of months to heal fully before we can move to the final stage. Your restoration will be ready to go and place on top of the implant. This crown will be customized to your mouth to fit in perfectly and look natural.

The Rest is Up to You

Now it’s your turn. Simply take care of your teeth including your new beautiful work of modern art and technology and it will last for decades.

Cost of Dental Implants in Mississauga

A single implant can cost approximately $4,000 to $6,000 in Mississauga. You can expect to pay up to about $25,000 to $30,000 for a full set of implant supported dentures. Consider this an investment in your current and future self. We cannot provide an exact quote over the phone, that would be impossible due to the complexities of the dental implant procedure and your individual situation. To make the decision easier and as a way to just see what options are available for you, we can offer you a free consultation and fit your budget payment plans.

You deserve to smile with confidence, eat the foods you want and not have to worry about the damage missing teeth causes your overall health in the long term.

Here are some important criteria to determine how the dental implant surgery costs:
  • How many and what types of implants you need.
  • What materials are used. We use only the top of the line in long lasting, durable materials for the implant and restoration.
  • The dental team’s experience and time while we take care of you before, during and after.
  • How complicated the surgery will be as determined by your exam.
  • The location in your mouth where it’s needed, top or bottom or front to back.
  • How much recovery time you will need in which you have our full support during that time.

We will go over all treatment and financial options with you so that we can see what your needs are. Simply book a consultation now and then we can provide you with a more accurate quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the 3 types of dental implants?

The first type is Endosteal. They are the most common but require suitable jawbone density for insertion. The second most common is Subperiosteal. This one is for people with more fragile jaw so it sits on top of the bone only as a frame and post.  The final type is Zygomatic and is used only for the most fragile of jawbone. This type is anchored from the cheek.

What is the best alternative to dental implants?

The top 2 most common alternatives are dental bridges and dentures. Bridges are just fake teeth that is suspended between your real teeth  roots (topped with a crown) on either side of the gap. They are not removable. Dentures can be full or partial and are just removable fake teeth. They are held in by the denture tray only. These two offer lower cost but less permanent solutions than dental implants mississauga.

What is the downside of dental implants?

Implants aren’t for everyone but there are some downsides compared to alternative solutions for your missing teeth. You need to have a great immune system and strong jawbone density to support most implants. They have a greater than 90% success rate but that means there is still a 10% chance they will fail and need to be replaced. They are more costly than other solutions but considering they last decades, you might find the investment worth it. Finally, the healing time is a few months and for some, they don’t want to wait.

Do you need to be put to sleep for dental implants?

It depends on your level of dental anxiety. If you require to be put to sleep for the treatment, then that is something you must discuss during your consultation. It also depends on the level of complexity involved with the treatment. For most appointments, local anesthetic is all that is needed.

Does having implants hurt?

To replace missing teeth, there could be some mild to moderate pain after the treatment for a few days to a week or two. Remember, the implants are put into your jaw bone. We can help you with that. Afterwards until it’s healed, there might be some mild discomfort. We constantly are in contact with you to monitor your situation but for most, it’s a comfortable procedure.
